The Adult Education Committee's mission is to provide Temple Beth Am's members with Jewish educational programs that:
lifelong learning and the love of Torah
understanding of religious, ethical, and cultural values of Judiasm
congregants to take personal responsibility for their own Jewish lives
the teachings of reform Judaism

A refresher course in Hebrew will be offered at Temple Beth Am during January, February and March 2010. The course will be led by Kathy Decker and will be aimed at adults who wish to brush up on reading Hebrew, with an emphasis on the prayers used at Temple Beth Am services.

This is ideal for parents of Hebrew school children. What a great way to brush up on your Hebrew so you can better help your kids! And why not stay at the Temple while the kids are at Hebrew School? You can leave your car in the pick-up line at be at the head of the line when Hebrew School gets out!

We will plan to meet in the Temple Beth Am library at 10 AM on Sunday mornings on the following dates:
January 10 and 24,
February 7 and 21
March 7 and 14

Refreshments will be served. At the last session Rabbi Kaplan will discuss some of the details of the structure and text of Shabbat Services.

We will be using the "Aleph Isn't Tough" textbook and a set of flashcards. The cost for material is $40. Space is limited, so sign up early. Contact Abram Kirschenbaum at abramk@pol.net or call the office to register. Registration deadline is Dec. 20th.

Lunch and Learn

The Lunch and Learn group is a monthly lecture/discussion that delves into various topics of interest viewed from a Reform Judaism perspective.

Discussions can include current events, Bible teachings, and the meaning of Jewish holidays. Rabbi Kaplan hosts the meeting which is held at the home of a congregant. Lunch is provided.

The Lunch and Learn group is held the second Thursday of each month at 12:00 Noon.

Please Let Shalene in the Temple Office know if you plan on attending and for directions to the event.

Torah Study

The Torah Study group is a monthly lecture/discussion hosted by Rabbi Kaplan which centers on the Torah portion of that week. Each session is self contained so you can attend any class without having been at previous classes. Lunch is provided by one of the members of the group.

The Torah Study group meets the first Saturday of each month unless there is a holiday. If there is no bar/bat mitzvah, the meeting begins at 11 AM. If there is a bar/bat mitzvah, the meeting starts at noon. Please call the temple office if you plan on attending.

Film Buffs, Take Note!

Resuming in January of 2010, you will have the opportunity to travel to distant lands and become immersed in foreign cultures for free and in the company of fellow Temple Beth Am members.  We are pleased to announce Temple Beth Am's first ever movie and discussion group.  Each meeting will feature a foreign or independent film that will provide for a thought-provoking discussion afterwards, or perhaps take you on a virtual vacation by way of exquisite cinematography.  Come relax with a small group in a home theater setting at the home of Laura & Jonathan Rudolph.  The group will meet every third Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.  Enjoy interesting films, lively discussions, refreshments (there will, of course, be popcorn), and great company as you expand your social circle and take a much needed two-hour vacation.  We look forward to seeing you at 11 Parkside Drive, Parsippany (1/2 mile north of the temple off S. Beverwyck Rd).  For questions or directions, call Laura Rudolph, 201.674.9496 or email filmclub@tbaparsippany.org
